Basics of using GGIR for accelerometer data processing

Published on by Stuart Fairclough

In December 2021 I created some video resources designed to help researchers starting off using the GGIR R package for physical activity accelerometer data processing. I put the videos together as part of a researcher development workshop I delivered at Edge Hill University. Please note that the videos are aimed at beginner users and are very much my interpretation of how to get set up and started with GGIR. As I put them together almost three years ago some aspects may also need updating.

For more specific information, updates, and advice about GGIR, visit Vincent van Hees’ website: Advancing movement and sleep research and the GGIR users forum. In addition, all GGIR documentation has been recently revised.

These video resources are publicly available in a YouTube playlist as well as here. The videos are:

  • Video 1: RStudio introduction & opening GGIR shell file
  • Video 2: Setting up raw data & output directories in GGIR
  • Video 3: Overview of GGIR shell (Parts 1 to 5)
  • Video 4: Running GGIR (Part 1)
  • Video 5: Running GGIR (Parts 2 to 5)
  • Video 6: Overview of GGIR summary outputs
