Having taught English and literature for several years, I am particularly interested in developing pupils’ literacy skills through the books they read. My current project explores Black Caribbean male pupils’ experiences of the GCSE literature curriculum. The personal narratives shared by the participants will be explored through the Critical Race Theory and the narrative interpretive methodological approach. The theoretical and methodological frameworks position the participants’ personal narratives as the objects of the study, enabling exploration of the ways in which participants experience, value and apply the literacy skills practised at Key Stage 4.
