Presentation from the half-day event "Examining effectiveness in scholarship/pedagogic research - Did my intervention work?" delivered on Tuesday 16th May 2023.

Overview:

The Synthesised Model of Reflection (SMoR) has been piloted as a new method for assessing reflective writing at Levels 4 and 7. A multiple method approach was adopted to gain a greater comprehension of the effectiveness of this new model.

This included a two-wave study, assessing change in development before and after engaging with the SMoR. Furthermore, engagement with a workbook was examined to see the impact on students' learning. Finally, Level 4 grades for the assessment using the SMoR will be compared across the year to other assessments to establish impact.

The Level 7 evaluation focused on examining the quality of reflections submitted in Term 1 as a formative assessment, compared to the summative assessment submitted in Term 3.

Finally, an evaluation of training to support staff with the SMoR was evaluated, highlighting before-after training comparisons as well as qualitative comments from the pilot.
