An exploratory case study using Appreciative Inquiry values, exploring the involvement of patients and family care giver involvement in student nurse education. The findings indicate that there is involvement in the main by caregivers and this involvement facilitates informal learning. Educational programmes must therefore include caregivers in student nurse training. Students develop skills of transformation and awareness of societal issues by engaging with caregivers and reflecting in and on clinical practice.

This presentation was given at the University Teaching and Learning Day at Edge Hill University in July 2024 and at Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal, India in January 2024.
