Meeting the academic needs of the ever-changing study body is key to a student’s attainment and retention. While universities in the United Kingdom offer a range of academic ‘support services’ it has been shown that embedded support is the most effective way of delivery (Wyatt, 2011). Academic support services, in our context, refer to Academic Librarian and Learning Development teams. If this support is embedded into the programme, students are more likely to successfully engage with ‘support services’ and improve their academic outcome (Coulson et al., 2021). This holistic view of the student journey is an example of effective student support at the University of Northampton.
