This session focuses on copyright considerations in the context of publishing and teaching.

Copyright is an area of scholarly communications that affects every researcher at some stage of their academic career. Engaging with copyright is therefore crucial to any involvement in both publishing and teaching, affecting individuals, and potentially the reputation of the institution at which they are based.

The first half of the session allows the presenter a chance to deliver key content on copyright in the context of both publishing and teaching. The second half of the session becomes more interactive, as the presenter asks common copyright questions to the attendees, who then respond via a poll, before a brief discussion.

By the end of the session, attendees will have a better understanding of key copyright considerations when publishing, including creative commons licences and rights retention, as well as basic knowledge on blanket copyright licences for education, and the relevant copyright exceptions for teaching.

Please see the notes in the presentation for further information and guidance on delivering the interactive element of the session.
