Abstract

Traditional teaching methods often fall short in effectively engaging students in Communication Engineering, particularly when addressing complex topics like bit error rate (BER), MIMO, and signal fading. This study introduces an AI-powered, gamified simulation platform designed to enhance immersive and adaptive learning experiences. Integrating MATLAB/Simulink with machine learning techniques, the platform delivers personalized feedback and interactive, scenario-based tasks through gamification elements such as missions, levels, and scores.

The intervention was evaluated with MSc students using anonymous feedback collected via the MySay Survey. Results showed marked improvement in post-test performance, with 100% of students preferring the simulation-enhanced Wireless Communications module over traditional lecture-based methods. Students reported the approach as “fun,” “motivating,” and helpful in simplifying complex concepts.

Despite its promising outcomes, the study was limited by a small sample size, short-term assessment, and focus on a single module. Future work will aim to scale the platform across courses, incorporate longitudinal analysis, and enhance AI personalization. This approach demonstrates strong potential to transform Communication Engineering education by aligning with modern EdTech trends and student-centered learning principles.
