Action and expression of learning outside the lecture room 2024
Research demonstrates the challenges and positive impact of field trips on student engagement in higher education. However, it raises some questions about their academic impact and their organisation, including how inclusive these field trips are. And what options are available if a student cannot attend?
Offering different modes of field trips, such as walking or online tours, permits reaching a wider audience and empowers students to engage on their own.
This presentation aims to understand outdoor learning activities as part of embedding Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in the curricula. The presentation focuses on field trips, their challenges, and the positive impact of student engagement in higher education. Offering different modes of field trips, such as walking or online tours, permits reaching a wider audience and empowers students to engage independently. In addition, the presentation will demonstrate the application of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles in higher education.
