Professor Catherine Johnson (University of Leeds) spoke to us about her work on scrutinising the upcoming Media Bill. She highlighted key elements of it which are connected to the shift from digital terrestrial delivery of television to internet protocol television, the shift from linear television viewing to on demand viewing and the role of public service broadcasters/media within this ecology. She emphasised continuities in television consumption and how the Media Bill does not respond to those and does not consider the needs of those audiences enough who may become digitally excluded as a result of these regulatory changes.
