Twelve Scents of Christmas How To Guide

This guide was written by Dr Smita Odedra (Senior Lecturer in Physical Chemistry, School of Chemistry, University of Glasgow), who created the Twelve Scents of Christmas chemistry outreach activity.

Twelve Scents of Christmas is a festive-themed Chemistry outreach activity that I created in 2018. This guide is intended to help users recreate and run this chemistry outreach activity. It can be tailored to your own learning outcomes based on your target audience.

Twelve Scents of Christmas is an interactive tabletop activity which has proved successful at engaging audiences of all ages. The University of Glasgow’s Chemistry Outreach Group has used it at a variety of events including community Christmas fayres, school visits, science museums, and undergraduate socials. The activity is fun, easy to run, and doesn’t create a mess. Once the activity materials have been created, the kit is easy to transport and set up, and lends itself well for reuse without further investment in consumables.
