The GenAI and assessment matrix was developed to support colleagues with adapting common assessment types for the 2023/2024 academic year in light of the challeneges presented by GenAI. This matrix was developed in discussion with Professor Kevin Brandom, Professor Barrie Cooper, Professor Alex Janes, Dr. Edward Mills, Dr. Annabel Watson and Kelly Louise Preece, Dr. Eleanor Hodgson and Dr. Karen Kenny in the Educator Development Team. The matrix outlines common assessment methods followed by:

  • How susceptible it is to generative-AI-related misconduct
  • Key skills being assessed
  • Things to consider including the following elements in your task to making them more resilient to AI-related misconduct
  • How you could use AI as part of the assignment task

This then becomes a quick reference guide where, when the method of assessment is outlined in a module descriptor (i.e., essay) but the assessment task (I.e., the essay question) can be adapted.
