Transformative learning for academic, professional and personal development: a hybrid Team Based Learning perspective

Delivering a curriculum by Team Based Learning (TBL) requires a structured approach over a two week cycle. Students are presented with an authentic problem at the beginning of the first week and the group uses a variety of learning opportunities (from lectures, workshops and self-directed activities) to answer the problem. At the beginning of the second week, individual students compare their performance with other members of the group and any difficulties in understanding the key learning points are clarified and this is followed by a further variety of learning opportunities. At the end of each week, there is a group reflection on both the learning and group processes.
